Hampstead Stage Company Comes to FES to Perform Greek Mythology for Kids!
The Hampstead Stage Company is one of the largest educational touring companies in the nation and is returning again to Fayston School on Wednesday, April 27th at 7:45 a.m.. This educational tour will be performed by two professional actors, each playing multiple roles. Scripts are original adaptations, based directly on literary classics, and include children and adults from the audience. The play last one hour, with a question and answer session following the performance.
This year’s performance will be, “The Ancient Gods: Greek Mythology for Kids” and this is the first in a series of plays aimed at introducing younger audiences into the world of Zeus, Hera, and all the other residents of Mount Olympus. Homer, the famous poet and source of information about ancient Greece, narrates the play. Inspired by the idea of the Greek chorus, the play uses mask work and creative props to incorporate the audience into the action. Homer takes the audience on a journey through antiquity; the kids meet a slew of gods, philosophers, heroes and monsters engaged in a battle over the destiny of humankind. This melange of tales is an exciting introduction to the ideas and culture that shaped western civilization as we know it today, as it chronicles the adventures of the Greek Gods and ancient superheroes such as Agamemnon and Hercules.
